During this group project, we collaboratively designed an interactive installation titled "Veil of Echoes." Inspired by the magical world of Disney, the work aims to create an immersive digital art experience where each participant can become the protagonist of their own magical story. Below is my personal reflections.
WEEK6
This week, our group collectively delved into the requirements and objectives of Project 2. Through group discussions, we clarified the core concept of "Veil of Echoes": to create an interactive space themed around "magic," where participants' movements trigger real-time visual and auditory fantasy effects.
As the person in charge of PPT production, my main task at this stage was to organize and visualize the group's creative ideas. This process made me realize that a good proposal requires not only solid content but also a clear mode of presentation. I began thinking about how to vividly bring our concept of a magical world to life through the PPT.
WEEK7
We changed the initial concept of triggering magic with a snap of the fingers to a wave of the hand, as this is easier to implement in TouchDesigner. This week, we focused on detailing the interactive design, including trigger mechanisms (such as clapping/approaching sensing), the logic of image transformation, and the coordination of magical animations and sound effects. We took inspiration from Scott Snibbe's "Deep Walls," hoping to achieve real-time mapping of participants' movements to on-screen shadows.
While working on the PPT, I paid special attention to translating the abstract interaction flow into easy-to-understand diagrams and text. I attempted to use simple visual elements to convey the idea that "your actions create magic," which gave me a deeper understanding of the project's underlying logic.
WEEK8
This week we shared our concept with Mr. Jala, and his advice was to create a unique magical world—a concept entirely our own—rather than basing this project on Disney's magical universe. Upon returning, we immediately revised our ideas and scrapped the initial proposal that used Disney magic as its core concept. This week, we further clarified the application logic of the sensors (camera, audio input devices) and how the system captures human outlines to generate real-time shadows. We also detailed the specific conditions for triggering animations and sound effects.
The PPT production entered a phase of refinement. I integrated the technical details from group discussions into clear step-by-step instructions, accompanied by schematic diagrams. This process honed my ability to distill complex information into key points and made me appreciate the importance of synchronizing information in team collaboration.
WEEK9
This week, we finalized the division of roles and timeline planning, ensuring that every team member was clear about their tasks and deadlines. I was responsible for consolidating all progress and content into the PPT in preparation for the final proposal presentation.
As the final person in charge of the PPT, I had to ensure not only the accuracy of the content but also the aesthetics and flow of the layout. I strove to connect the logic of each section, making the entire proposal read like a cohesive story. Seeing the ideas gradually take shape gave me a great sense of achievement.
WEEK10
After our presentation, Mr. Jala offered some suggestions. He said we could enhance the overall user experience by adding more background to the stories and incorporating more emotional experiences. We will use this as a basis for improvement as we move forward to complete the next project. This week, we conducted final reviews and adjustments to ensure that the interaction logic, technical details, and visual presentation all met expectations. I completed the final version of the PPT and assisted the group in conducting a simulation rehearsal.
Through this project, I deeply realized that a PPT is not just a presentation tool but also a carrier of thinking. From concept to details, from division of labor to integration, each revision deepened my understanding of the project. I am grateful for the efforts of every team member, which brought "Veil of Echoes" from conception toward reality.
