Game Development Exercise 2:Indiviual Asset Creation 7 October2025- 9 October 2025 LI YUHAN (0379857) This week's assignment is to create 3D assets for our game project. I chose to develop a childhood model of the protagonist "Xiaoyu" for my narrative puzzle game The Shadow Formula, along with a key environmental object—a small kitchen from memory. Designing Character Appearances My concept for the protagonist, Xiao Yu, is a rebellious little girl who loves candy. Thus, I envisioned her as a girl in a skirt with twin ponytails, her arms crossed to convey her defiant nature and hint at the misunderstanding with her mother. My initial character designs aimed for greater detail, but since my game style relies on silhouettes that illuminate during gameplay, I abandoned all the original details. Instead, I focused on refining the character using black and white to make her vivid and three-dimensional. I. Creative Inspiration and Design Goals The core of Shadow's Recipe rev...

Game Development (Weekly Learning) 26 September 2025- 3 October 2025 LI YUHAN (0379857) Week 1 The first week established a foundation centered on practice and collaboration. The session began with a distinctive icebreaker—introducing a neighbor within five minutes—which quickly bridged gaps and signaled that teamwork would be integral to the semester. The instructor clearly outlined the course structure, impressing me with his emphasized development philosophy: we should start from the "first principles" of game design, building a solid foundation rather than over-relying on ready-made modules. To this end, he recommended open-source software free from licensing restrictions and openly permitted the use of AI for asset generation, while cautioning against tools with authorization risks like Photoshop. The most significant insight from this lesson was not a specific technical skill, but the establishment of a "designer's mindset." The instructor's emphasis o...

Game Development Exercise 1: Geme idea 26 September 2025- 3 October 2025 LI YUHAN (0379857) My game is called <<The Shadow Formula>>. Through its light-and-shadow puzzle mechanics, I aim to take players on an emotional journey about misunderstanding and reconciliation. It's not your typical platformer. Players don't directly control the character. Instead, they must manipulate a light source to cast shadows that pave the way forward. As levels progressively unfold, a hidden secret gradually comes to light. In the final level, players no longer jump but instead use light to "witness" their mother's sacrifices. This captures my core message: often, love is already present—we just need a beam of light to discover it. Mood Board 1. Game Setting: Story Opening: After her mother's unexpected death, the protagonist "Xiaoyu" discovers among her belongings an old-fashioned flashlight her mother had always used and a blank diary. While overcome wit...
